She’s a British Nigerian stand-up comedian and TV star who has appeared on iconic shows such as “Mock The Week” and hosted “Live At The Apollo.” Known for her caustic humor, Yashere, who has achieved significant success in both the United Kingdom and the United States is a co-creator, writer, and co-star of the CBS sitcom “Bob Hearts Abishola,” and is one of several individuals being honored by the Critics Choice Association (CCA).

Yashere, along with Guinean and Congolese actor Karim Diané, Tig Notaro, and Kerrice Brooks will be honored with the Ensemble Award for their roles in Paramount+’s “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” by the largest critics’ organization in the United States and Canada. The series, which follows cadets as they come of age and train to be officers, explores queer love—including Diané’s character, Jay-Den Kraag, the franchise’s first gay Klingon, and Notaro’s and Yashere’s workplace romance.
Yashere plays Commander Lura Thok in the series which has received acclaim from LGBTQ+ fans.
They will be honored at the 3rd annual Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television, which recognizes achievements across the LGBTQ+ entertainment community and spotlights the talented stars, creators, and writers behind some of the year’s most acclaimed projects.

This year’s event will also honor Emmy Award–winning actor, comedian, and author Jane Lynch, producers Dan Levy and Paula Pell and musician Bre-Z.
“Stranger Things” actor Noah Schnapp will be awarded the Breakthrough Performance Award for his role in the Netflix series and actor Brandon Scott Jones will receive the Supporting Performance Award for a Comedy Series for his role on CBS’ “Ghosts.”

Andrew Freund and CCA member Jerry Nunn will host the show which celebrates emerging and established LGBTQ+ film and TV talent. “LGBTQ+ representation continues to matter, now more than ever,” said Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics Choice Association. “The Critics Choice Association is proud to celebrate and uplift the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community.”
The show which is produced by Javier Infante, Madelyn Hammond and Ella Carlson of Hammond Infante Productions will be held Friday, May 29 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
